The skin is the largest organ of detoxification. Many people are unable to sweat because their pores are clogged by soaps and body lotions. Sauna cleanses the skin, and aids the vision, muscles and joints. Hyperthermia (raising the body temperature) is even useful in overcoming cancer and various infections. Unlike conventional saunas which run at temperatures of close to 160 degrees F., far infrared saunas only need to operate at 95 – 115 degrees F. Obviously conventional sauna can be dangerous for those who are deeply fatigued, or suffer from heart problems. High temperatures can be harmful to the sinus system, one of the many systems that benefit from the lower temperatures of the far infrared sauna.
When beginning a program of sauna detoxification, it is important to be well hydrated before, during, and after the session. If you are very sensitive, start with lower temperatures for perhaps ten minutes, and gradually work up to 30 to 40 minutes. Be sure to take a good mineral supplement to replace minerals, which are lost through perspiration.
